artience Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director Satoru Takashima, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) will sponsor the solo exhibition "Rethink Noritaka Tatehana – In the Hands of Time – Exhibition," held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of contemporary artist Noritaka Tatehana's creative activities. This exhibition will also display works born from the 2027 artience group Calendar Co-Creation Project, which our company is currently working on together with Mr. Tatehana.
"Rethink" is a term that Mr. Tatehana advocates as a concept for his creative activities. It expresses a creative attitude that seeks to generate new value by reinterpreting history and culture not simply from a contemporary perspective, but rather by re-inheriting them from a contemporary perspective. This exhibition features a collection of works that offer a comprehensive view of Mr. Tatehana's 15 years of creative work, including his representative work "Heel-less Shoes," which was created under his philosophy. The theme of this exhibition is "In the Hands of Time," focusing not only on completed works but also on material research, prototyping, production processes, and collaboration with traditional craft masters across Japan.
In creating the 2027 artience group calendar, our company launched a co-creation project to re-examine the technologies and craftsmanship cultivated over more than 130 years since our founding, based on Mr. Tatehana's concept of "Rethink." In this project, Mr. Tatehana and eight volunteer employees are re-examining our group's technologies and materials from new perspectives, creating calendars that blend these with the sensibilities of contemporary art.
This exhibition will showcase not only Mr. Tatehana's 15-year career trajectory, but also works that combine ideas born from this project, such as abstract paintings using waste ink and drawdowns, one of the ink quality inspection methods.
artience will promote initiatives that convey the "value that resonates with the senses" created by artience through the fusion of art and science through sponsorship of this exhibition and the display of works born from the Calendar Co-Creation Project.
