What are Microdisplays?

Microdisplays are ultra-small, high-definition displays used in VR/AR devices for the metaverse, which has been attracting attention recently. In addition to traditional liquid crystal displays (LCD) and organic EL (OLED) displays, there are other types such as Micro OLED, Micro LCD (LCOS), MEMS, and Micro LED.
Main applications include VR head-mounted displays, AR glasses, and EVFs (Electronic View Finders) for digital cameras. The market for Microdisplays is expected to expand as demand for VR/AR devices increases as the metaverse progresses.

Characteristics of CF for Microdisplays

With VR/AR devices, because the display is in front of your eyes, the "screen door phenomenon", where a mesh pattern is visible on the display, is more likely to occur if the resolution is low. In order to achieve a high level of immersion in the video world, a high-definition display that reduces the screen door effect is required. The size of pixels (sub-pixels) formed by color filter (CF) is required to be approximately several μm or less.

Our color resist inks for Microdisplays

In addition to our color resist technology, which forms high-definition pixels that we have cultivated through resists for image sensors, we can also use low-temperature post-bake processing at temperatures below 100°C that does not damage heat-sensitive materials such as organic EL. We have developed color resist (Low temperature curing resist inks).
We are also developing products with a wide color gamut that produces vivid and beautiful hues, and high brightness that maintains screen brightness.
