High insulation properties - Features of coatings for electrodeposition coatings

Examples of painted products with electrodeposition paints.
Examples of painted products with electrodeposition paints
Electrodeposition coating is a method that can provide high insulation properties because it can be painted with a thick film and uniformity compared to other coating and surface treatment methods. The dense and uniform coating film formed using an electric field is less likely to form thin films even in three-dimensional shapes, greatly reducing leakage and insulation failures from the thin films.
TOYOCHEM 's electrodeposition coatings have been shown to have a linear increase in breakdown voltage as the thickness of the film increases, and a major advantage is that high insulation reliability can be ensured by thickening the film. We offer the best solution for customers looking for reliable insulation performance while increasing design freedom.
If you are looking for a paint that can provide higher insulation, we recommend the newly developed polyimide electrodeposition paint that can be painted with a thicker film.

Test data on insulation (comparison with other construction methods)

The figure below compares the insulation performance of white anodized aluminum and epoxy electrodeposition paints. White anodized aluminum has a breakdown voltage of 0.8 kV (film thickness of 8 μm), whereas electrodeposition coating has a film thickness of 10 to 40 μm and a significantly higher value of 2.5 to 10 kV.
It is also possible to confirm that the insulation properties improve linearly with the increase in film thickness, and the major advantage of electrodeposition coatings is that they can provide high insulation reliability due to thick films.

Why electrodeposition coating can ensure high insulation

To improve insulation, uniform and thick film coating is required. While it may be difficult to achieve both uniformity of film thickness and thick film with general spray coatings, our electrodeposition coatings can form coatings that combine these and can be expected to ensure high insulation.

"Frequently Asked Questions" about the insulation properties of electrodeposition paints

There are two main types: cationic electrodeposition and anionic electrodeposition. Our paints are compatible with anion electrodeposition.

Epoxy electrodeposition paints have low water absorption and excellent moisture insulation properties. Even in high-temperature, high-humidity and condensation environments, the insulation resistance is not likely to deteriorate, and it also shows stable performance in electrical components.

Yes. Electrodeposition coating has the self-control ability to preferentially deposit into thin areas by using electric field control, so it is possible to ensure uniform film thickness even with uneven and concave shapes. It is suitable for insulation treatment of complex shapes that are difficult to use with other construction methods. For details, please refer to the "Achieving Uniform Film Thickness|Coatings for Electrodeposition Coatings" page.

Yes, it is possible. Formulation designs such as improved insulation, heat-resistant grades, and thick film types can be designed according to customer requirements.

It has excellent corrosion resistance, heat resistance, durability, and high mass production, so it can be expected to be used in many electrical and automotive parts. It is a strong choice for applications that require multiple functions at the same time, such as "insulation + corrosion resistance".

Product features

This product uses a unique emulsion design using high molecular weight resin to form a dense and homogeneous insulating film. Even in a three-dimensional shape, thin films are less likely to form, and it is characterized by high insulation properties to prevent current leakage.
The electrodeposition method can also be applied uniformly to complex geometries, providing excellent reliability in applications where insulation performance is required, such as electronic components and mobility components.

Differences from other products

Compared to other companies' products, this product has the advantage of high adhesion and corrosion resistance due to its unique high molecular weight resin design. It is easy to form a homogeneous coating film on the metal surface, which can maintain stable insulation performance with low leakage risk.
The electrodeposition method can also be applied evenly to dissimilar metals and complex shapes, providing high insulation for a wide range of part geometries.

Supported materials

TOYOCHEM 's electrodeposition coatings are compatible with various metal materials such as SUS, aluminum, and copper. Suitability and incompatibility vary depending on the type of metal and surface treatment, so please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns.
(* Electrodeposition coating is a technology that forms a coating film by applying electricity to the subject, so it cannot be painted on materials that do not conduct electricity)
